“For this latest issue we have decided to focus our attentions on the first international Disney park to be built – Tokyo Disneyland,” Tales publisher Lee J MacDonald begins. “In fact we have so much artwork, photography and stories to share that we have spread the Tokyo Disneyland coverage over two issues.” This issue will focus on the current developments at the park with an interview with the architect team at Walt Disney Imagineering that have built the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and Joe Lanzisero talks about the inclusion of Stitch into a third generation Enchanted Tiki Room that has recently opened at Tokyo Disneyland.

We also take a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of High School Musical - Live On Stage! through interviews with the cast and creative principals of the London show and exclusive photography from the rehearsals. The musical theme continues with an insight into the South African heritage of Disney’s The Lion King with original cast member (and educator on African and world history, musicology and Afrocentricity) Ron Kunene. The triumvirate of musical-related articles is completed with an interview with Academy Award - and Grammy Award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz who discusses Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted.

Tales has been granted an exclusive interview with Chairman, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Jay Rasulo who discusses Disney’s current international ventures, the effect of the economy on the Company’s domestic operations and the division’s future. Finally legendary animator and sculptor Ruben Procopio talks about his work and his family connections to the Walt Disney Company.

“We are not only thinking about storytelling in our historic context – rides and attractions within a theme park – but telling them in many different ways in the family leisure space... That is the direction we are taking Parks & Resorts with a focus on a broader footprint on family leisure than we have in the past. The Tokyo Disney Resort has come of age as a true destination and it is not just a day visit like it was 25 years ago.”

Jay Rasulo, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts
